Sciatica often causes pain that travels from the lower back or buttock into the leg and may be accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness.
Yes. A New Zealand royal commission of enquiry into Chiropractic found that adjustments are "remarkably safe". It was our own Dr Clive Mudgway that represented the chiropractic profession throughout the New Zealand commission of inquiry. Compare the statistics chiropractic adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking an over the pain reliever.
On your first appointment:
We will ask you to fill in a form about your current and past health. Your Chiropractor will then talk to you about any health concerns you may have and how chiropractic care may benefit you. X-rays may be taken if required on site and your next appointment will be scheduled.
On your second appointment:
Clinical findings and x-rays if they were taken will be discussed with you. We will suggest a recommended schedule of care for you to gain the best possible results from chiropractic care.
Many disc injuries improve over time. Recovery varies depending on several factors including severity and overall health.

Yes. Certain types of headaches may be associated with dysfunction of the neck joints, muscles, and nerves.
Many people seek chiropractic care for back pain. Treatment focuses on improving movement, function, and spinal health.
Yes. Certain headaches, known as cervicogenic headaches, originate from dysfunction in the joints, muscles, or nerves of the neck.
Common symptoms include pain, numbness, tingling, burning sensations, and muscle weakness.
While arthritis cannot be cured, chiropractic care may help improve joint movement, flexibility, and overall function in some individuals.
Lubricating fluids separate the bones of each spinal joint. This fluid contains a dissolved gas. Pressure to the joint separates the gas from the liquid, creating the popping sound. Much like opening a bottle of champagne. The sound is interesting but it isn't a guide to the quality of the adjustment. An adjustment is the restoration of appropriate function of a spinal joint not the noise associated with it.
Everyone’s spine is unique and their chiropractic care is tailored specifically to their age, condition, individual health and goals. The number of adjustments varies depending on each patient. Many people report improvement within a week or two of frequent visits. Neglected spines, however, can often experience slower progress. Visits become less as the spine stabilizes.
The term slipped disc commonly refers to a disc bulge or herniated disc rather than a disc physically slipping.
Some episodes improve naturally. However, persistent or recurring symptoms may benefit from professional assessment.
Poor posture can place additional strain on the muscles and joints of the neck, particularly during prolonged sitting.
While short periods of rest may be appropriate in some situations, prolonged inactivity can often slow recovery. Individual recommendations vary depending on your condition.
Poor posture may place additional strain on the muscles and joints of the neck, which can contribute to some headache types.
Yes. Irritation affecting nerves in the lower back can cause symptoms travelling into the buttock, leg, and foot, commonly known as sciatica.
Appropriate movement and exercise are often important for maintaining joint function and mobility.
A pinched nerve is rare. It is more likely that a poorly functioning spinal bone creates irritation or inflammation to the joint or disc that then irritate the nerve. This pressure distorts the nerve message sent between the brain and the body. This can produce unhealthy alterations to the organs and tissues connected by the effected nerves.
Initial Intensive Care
This is where most patients begin their chiropractic care. Visits may be frequent but depend upon your individual condition. The primary focus is to help manage and relieve your most obvious symptom.
Rehabilitative Care
With your symptoms diminished the objective is to stabilise spinal function. Muscles and soft tissues of the spine are strengthened during this stage of care, helping to avoid a relapse.
Wellness Care
With the maximum restoration of spinal function many patients have their spine checked on a regular basis. This type of preventative care can save time and money by helping little problems from becoming serious.
Most disc injuries do not require surgery. Every case is unique and should be assessed individually.
In many cases, gentle movement and walking can be helpful, although recommendations vary depending on the cause of symptoms.
No. Imaging is only recommended when clinically indicated following a thorough examination.
Migraines often involve additional symptoms such as nausea, visual changes, and sensitivity to light or sound.
Some cases improve over time. However, persistent symptoms may benefit from professional assessment.
Not always. Imaging is only recommended when clinically indicated following an assessment.
Chiropractic care works because your are a self healing, self regulating organism controlled by your nervous system. Instructions from your brain travel down your spinal cord and out to every organ and cell in your body. Signals get sent back to the brain to confirm your body is working correctly. Improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine, called a subluxation, can interfere with this vital exchange of information by irritating nerves. Spinal adjustments can improve mind/body communications. Improved nervous system control often returns the body to a more adaptive healing state.
Appropriate exercise is often an important part of recovery and rehabilitation.
Not everyone requires imaging. Recommendations are based on your examination findings.
Not everyone requires imaging. X-rays are only recommended when clinically indicated.
This depends on several factors including the severity of symptoms, how long the condition has been present, and your personal health goals.
If headaches are frequent, worsening, or affecting your quality of life, professional assessment is recommended.
Not everyone requires imaging. Recommendations will be based on your examination findings and clinical presentation.
Yes. Stiffness, particularly in the morning or after inactivity, is a common symptom of arthritis.
Between each pair of spinal bones is a disc. Its fibrous outer layer holds a jelly like material that acts a s a "ball bearing" for joint movement. Because of the way it attaches to the vertebra above and below a disc cant actually "slip". It can however bulge, tear and herniate. It can also dry out and collapse but it cant slip.
During the course of your care, reviews will be scheduled to monitor the changes to your body and to make sure you are receiving the maximum possible benefit. If there are other areas of your health you would like more information about, or help with, this is an ideal time to discuss these issues.
If symptoms are persistent, worsening, recurrent, or affecting daily activities, an assessment may be beneficial.
Helps support the final stages of healing and helps detect and resolve any new problems. Muscles and soft tissue of the spine are strengthened during this stage of care, helping to avoid a relapse and prevent little problems becoming serious. Each adjustment builds on the one before. Maintenance ensures your spine’s level of optimal health.
Similar to dental checkups, maintenance care is designed to monitor problem areas in the spine and nervous system, helping the body to correct these problems as they arise. We encourage our patients to develop a greater understanding of their health through chiropractic care.
Our aim is to see our patients evolve from the current sickness model of health care to one of prevention and wellness.
